If you’ve been craving a skirt that makes you feel instantly fancy, then Sylvie is your girl. She’s the kind of twirly, romantic circle skirt sewing pattern you put on when you want drama and movement. And because she’s size-inclusive and thoughtfully designed, she feels just as good as she looks.
You can make Sylvie as a cute mini skirt or a swooshy midi skirt, and you get to decide if you want slash pockets or a waist tie for a statement bow moment. The whole skirt is made from panels so you can use up your fabric scraps, mix prints, play with colour blocking… honestly, it’s a scrap-busting dream!
The waistband is comfy with elastic at the back, which means your tummy can expand freely (necessary for all-day wear!). Tie the waist ties at the front or the back for a long, flowy bow, or wrap them around your waist for a super cute short bow. There is an invisible zip too, making it a fab next step for intermediate sewists looking for their next sewing challenge.
Sylvie works all year round, which is why people love her. Make the mini in suede or chambray with tights and boots for a cosy autumn look, whip up a gingham version for summer picnics, or go full glam and sew the midi in a drapey velvet or satin for a night out. If you’re into whimsical, floaty, twirly skirt patterns, this one is absolutely calling your name.
And when you make yours, I want to see it! Check out the sewing inspiration over at #sylviecircleskirt on Instagram.

Fabric:
The mini and midi skirt pair nicely with light weight and medium weight non-stretch woven fabric such as viscose, linen, cotton lawn, jacquard, velvet, gingham, tencel etc
For the mini skirt, both fluid and structured fabrics work well. The midi skirt looks great in fabrics with plenty of drape.
Supplies:
- 70cm x 20cm (27.5” x 8”) lightweight iron-on interfacing
- 3cm (1.2”) wide waistband elastic
- 23cm (9”) invisible zip
- A hook and eye for zip closure
- Matching thread
- Sewing machine and basic tools

Fabric Requirements
An elegant skirt that is guaranteed to make you twirl around to show off the swoosh. I shortened my midi by 15 cm because I wanted to use a thicker fabric. The ideal winter skirt. The optional ribbons that you can wear both at the front and at the back give it something extra, but I have made a version without them and I love both versions. A little warning: you can’t make just one version of this skirt. It’s so good and flattering. I wore mine for Christmas and I was still comfortable after all the eating ;-)
This is an amazing pattern. The skirt turned out great and the instruction was easy to follow. I omitted the zipper, the elastic waisband made it possible to pull the skirt over my head.
