The Willow Sewing Pattern
Every sewing pattern designer or brand might have a different definition as to what defines sewing ability. Here's how I define sewing skill level for each sewing pattern:

Beginner
Ideal for complete beginners. These patterns use simple shapes and easy-to-sew woven fabrics like cotton or linen with no fitting required. Techniques may include straight seams, basic hems, inserting elastic, simple edge finishes like zig-zag stitch, no closures, simple square patch pockets.

Confident Beginner
For sewists who are comfortable using a sewing machine and following basic instructions. Building on your skills with techniques such as darts, gathering, applying facings or bias binding, simple sleeve styles, sewing simple closures like loops or ties, in-seam pockets, clean seam finishings with an overlocker or flat felled and french seam on straight seams, simple fitting adjustments, sewing visible centred zips, sewing curved seams and simple collars eg. peter pan. Slightly trickier fabrics can be used like viscose, light cotton lawn.

Intermediate
For those with a good understanding of garment construction. These patterns may include structured shapes, lapped or invisible zips, buttonholes, pleats, set-in sleeves, manderin or shirt collars, slant/zipped/flap pockets and linings or partial linings. You’ll start learning to adjust the fit and work with a wider range of fabrics, including lightweight or slippery materials.

Advanced
For experienced sewists confident in most garment techniques. Expect more complex construction such as fly zips, tailored collars, welt and breast pockets, fully lined or partial bagging-out, detailed seam finishing like hong kong or flat felled and french seams on curves. These patterns may require precise fitting adjustments and working with challenging fabrics or layers.

Expert
For highly skilled sewists with a deep understanding of garment construction and fitting. Techniques may include couture finishes, boning, structured tailoring, bound buttonholes, tailored jackets and coats with full structure, lined garments with bagged linings and complex pattern matching. A high level of accuracy and patience is essential.

First time I have bought a Cinnamon Daisy pattern. I was very impressed with the Wllow Dress pattern. The instructions were very informative and helpful. I will certainly buy another pattern
This pattern gave me the chance to try some new techniques like darting, gathering, and adjusting pattern measurements. It was fun to sew and watch come together, and the perfect difficulty level for me as a confident beginner. I made the mini version in a red linen and I love it sooo much. I tie the sides loose when I want to be comfy, and tighter when I want to look more put together. I will definitely be making a few more of these dresses!
This was a great pattern. I've been sewing for a long time, but am solidly in the adventurous beginner category. I spent extra time grading the bodice with a muslin for a better fit - and it was totally worth it. In love with this pattern and definitely glad I made a version of the patten with heavy tracing paper so I can make it again, and again, and again... (I'm thinking a flannel version for winter??)
What a gorgeous pattern! Emma is truly an artist in pattern design. The willow is a simple pattern yet it is elevated through its stunning gathers, side ties and sleeve options. This pattern would suit any body type. I've already made 3 versions. Love the Willow.

Loved putting this one together! Still only a beginner sewer but looking for challenges, and this was a great dress for just that. Video follow along was perfect, extremely helpful - I barely used the written instructions at all. Also love all the options and tips on adjusting the dress for your particular body. Flooded with compliments in the office as soon as I wore it!
This was such a fun dress to make - perfect for a intermediate sewer like myself although I'm sure a beginner could make this too! The pattern was very clear and the video was a helpful addition. I've received so many compliments on the dress I made and am hoping to make a second in a new fabric!
I absolutely loved this pattern! It was easy to make and looks so cute with the waistline and bows. I made it in a lightweight polka dot corduroy, but would try this in lots of different fabrics.
Overall really enjoyed making the dress up.
I found some of the pattern not very clear, which will make it harder for beginners.
I made a couple of changes to the neck line,
For me at sat to high so I dropped it.
I love my dress made two and I'm sure there will be many more !

I loved making the Willow dress! The instructions are easy to follow and the techniques are not too difficult. I recommend making a toile of the bodice portion of the dress. Emma recently came out with different cup sizes for the pattern, I used the D-cup version and it turned out great. The only mod I made was adding an inch to the length of the bodice. I made the sleeveless midi dress version.
I'm already planning a sleeved, knee-length Willow dress next!

This pattern is SO CUTE! I had never really made a garment before and it was so much easier than I was expecting! I love it! My first one turned out a little bit big, but I don't even care because I'm so excited to have a reason to make another one!
Great pattern. Only one issue, my chest is a little low compared to the pattern. Maybe I need to size up 1 size but overall a great simple pattern 👍
Such a versatile pattern! I made some modifications to the Willow Top for a dressier fit (for a galaxy themed event) but I look forward to using this pattern as-is for everyday wear too. Great instructions & options to build on. I made a test sloper to mark out a v-neckline, cropped the waist length, and substituted in a 70 inch peplum to give more structure. Since I chose to quilt squares together from lightweight cotton fabrics, I opted for a full inner lining to encase my quilting seams (using the burrito method to finish my neck & arm holes). Paired great with “The Cara Skirt” from MaryelStudioPatterns.

Love this pattern! Have made 2 dresses and second one made in a smaller size and took 2cm off the top and loved it!
I have sewn a lot before but this was the first dress pattern I followed. It was easy to follow and the result was beyond expectations. I am so happy with te look and fit of this dress and I will make several variations, both with sleeves and as a blouse.
I’m teaching myself how to sew. I think I’ve only made 5 items so I feel like I’m very much a beginner.
I saw this pattern and fell in love! The instructions pretty easy, I did have some questions about the sleeves and sent a message (late in the night too) to my surprise she responded very quick! Not only did she answer my question but she gave me more information on how you can tell if sleeves are mirrored or not.
I think one thing I would love is if she offered a little video with it(I’m visual and audio learner). However she has some great resources on modifying the pattern and show casing what others have done on instagram. I’m really excited to make more!
Love this pattern. Can see me making more different versions. Made this one in viscose. It has a lovely floaty feel. Lengthened the body slightly but other than this it was true to size. Thank you Emna for your lovely patterns
One of my favorite makes so far. Simple construction with a beautiful finished product! Can’t wait to make the top version, sleeved version, and shorter version. The possibilities are endless!
This pattern got me out of a sewing rut! It was also my first (finished) dress even though I’ve been sewing for 5 years. I think this pattern is genius honestly - it’s simple (only a few pieces, no closures) - yet it makes a huge impact. And I love that it’s so comfortable too. Along with shortening the bodice, I sewed with closed darts to have a neat finish on the inside, and made my ties thicker. I can see myself making it again and the top version too :)
