If you know how to use a sewing machine but the idea of sewing clothes feels a bit scary then you’re in the right place!

Isla was designed specifically for beginner sewists who have maybe made simple projects previously and are ready to step into the very exciting world of sewing your own clothes. I promise you won't look back.

What is the Isla sew-along?

The Isla Sew-Along is a relaxed January group sewing project, hosted inside a private Slack community.

You’ll be sewing alongside others who are also making their first garment, or with people who are in need of a sewing boost or with people who just love to sew with others! Inside the sew-along you’ll get:

  • clear, beginner-friendly guidance
  • a supportive group space to ask questions
  • reassurance when things feel wobbly
  • permission to go at your own pace

You can join in fully, dip in and out or quietly follow along.

Who this is for?

This sew-along is perfect if you:

  • can use a sewing machine but haven’t sewn garments yet
  • want a gentle, confidence-building first project
  • enjoy learning alongside others
  • would love support rather than figuring it all out alone

You don’t need advanced skills, just curiosity and a willingness to try.

Why sew together?

Sewing your first garment can feel like a big step and doing it solo often makes it harder than it needs to be.

This sew-along gives you:

  • accountability without the pressure
  • encouragement when doubts creep in
  • answers when you’re unsure
  • a space where progress matters more than perfection

Plus you might make some new sewing friends which is always a bonus!

This was a great pattern testing experience and love how responsive, active and helpful Emma is. One of the best testing groups I've been in!
